Basic Bloodstain Pattern Recognition (BBPRC)

Purpose

To give forensic identification specialists an in-depth look at all types of bloodstain patterns and their value as evidence.

Course content

  1. Theory of bloodstain patterns (including history)
  2. Photographing bloodstain patterns
  3. Analysis of projected bloodstain patterns
  4. Case reviews
  5. Reconstruction of crime scene
  6. String exercise
  7. Introduction to basic math and physics of bloodstain analysis
  8. Introduction to computer analysis of bloodstain patterns
  9. Practical exercises: experiments and mock crime scenes
  10. Written and practical examination

Student selection criteria

Open to all personnel from accredited police agencies who have successfully completed the Forensic Identification Course or equivalent, and are full time scenes of crime examiners. Must supply supporting documentation with application.

Student assessment

Students will be required to successfully complete a written and a practical examination.

Duration of course: five working days

Class size: eighteen students

Language of instruction: English
