Cellphone Seizure and Analysis Course (CSAC)

This course is designed for forensically trained investigators/analysts who are required to seize and analyze digital evidence from cellular telephones. During this course, the forensic principals and practical skills required to recover, examine and analyze evidence obtained from cellular devices will be covered. Through a combination of theory, demonstrations and hands-on exercises, participants will be provided a thorough understanding of cellular forensics and related issues.

  • Overview of cellular technology
  • Forensic seizure and analysis processes for cellular devices
  • Cellular telecom infrastructure
  • Overview of cellular device operating systems
  • Legal issues regarding the search and seizure of cellular devices
  • Overview of current forensic software and hardware tools
  • Practical exercises seizing and analyzing evidence from cellular devices using various tools
  • Processes for verification of findings
  • Preparing analysis reports for disclosure
  • Overview of advanced investigative techniques
  • Future trends in cellular technology

 Participant Selection Criteria:

This course is open to individuals from Canadian Police Services - federal, provincial and municipal - and other Canadian government agencies.

An eligible participant must:

  • Have successfully passed the CPC CMPFOR (Computer Forensic Examiner Course) or equivalent
  • Be a member of a High Tech Crime Unit
