Description
DIGRAD provides students with certification as Level I Police and Security Radiographers. It prepares police explosives technicians, government security personnel and personnel employed in the security field to operate portable X-ray equipment to inspect the contents of packages. Students operate battery-powered, low energy x-ray generators, using digital x-ray equipment and radiographic techniques to produce high quality radiographs.

Learning outcomes
- Ability to conduct radiographic examination of subject material
- Ability to operate and care for radiography equipment
- Ability to interpret radiographic images for identification purposes
- Knowledge of radiographic theory and testing techniques
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Knowledge of the theory and the application of radiation safety
- Ability to supervise trainees in the correct and safe use of radiographic equipment
Eligibility and mandatory requirements
- This course is offered to members of federal, provincial or territorial regulatory and law enforcement agencies, government security personnel and others who must take the course due to specific employment requirements (e.g. forensic specialists or equipment distributors for demonstration purposes)
- Registrants must demonstrate sufficient education, training and experience to ensure understanding of the principles and procedures of police and security radiography
- Acceptance or refusal in the course is at the discretion of the college Assessment
Assessment
- Success in the course is based on participation and completion of all required assignments
- Various evaluation methods are used, including assessment of case study, peer evaluation, final exam, and range exercise
- Re-testing or re-evaluation is conducted at the discretion of the course instructor
